Shoreview’s Sister City Celebrates 1250th Anniversary
2018 marks a big anniversary for the community of Einhausen, Germany! Einhausen was first mentioned in historical records in the year 768 AD or 1250 years ago. (In German it’s called a Jubiläum.) Einhausen is a proud little community of about 6,000 residents, in the German State of Hessen. It sits along the Wechnitz River at the foot of the Bergstrasse Mountains.
The anniversary has been celebrated by various activities throughout the year. Including, fireworks, parades, band concerts, outdoor light show, and a rubber duck race on the Wechnitz. with over 500 ducks!
In August 2018, a delegation of 24 people from Shoreview and other parts of the US traveled to Einhausen to participate in the celebration. The group included former members of the 298th US Army Band who were in Germany on a reunion tour. While in Einhausen, delegation members stayed in homes of local residents, a great cultural exchange experience.
The formal Sister City relationship between Einhausen and Shoreview is over 15 years old.
